Reality of Video Game Violence
The human-nature to seek an explanation for a violent shooting, can very well overshadow any logical reasoning that may be used. So often times people blame the media for exposing our entire society to frequent amounts of violence. Violence is very common in today's media, as it often grabs the attention of the viewer. One of the most recent types of media, video games, are becoming increasingly popular among our youth because of its appeal to fantasy and virtual worlds that they allow the player (or gamer) to operate in. With so many kids having access to violence via video games, parents and adults find it easy to believe that video game violence are the reason for today's youth committing violent acts regardless of the weak research on the matter. The public desire for assurance on shootings inclines people to believe that violent video games are the cause, however this desire blinds the public from any responsibility, facts, and the benefits from these same games. Violence in video games is used as a public scapegoat by the media and politicians.
