Mature Content in Video games

Since their Inception video games have included content that is not appropriate for children. It is a simple fact, before Call of Duty let players massacre a Russian Airport, before Assassins Creed let you stab the pope, before Grand Theft Auto let you get drunk and run over prostitutes while shooting elderly women, before Doom sent players to Hell and back, before Mortal Kombat let you rip a man’s spine out of his body, the list goes one. Many people can look at video games and say that they are a toy for children, some of them are, and some of them definitely are not. As long as there have been mature video games there have been kids wanting to play them, they are like an R rated movie only better. This would not be a problem if children could not get the video games, but they can. As long as they have parental consent, someone under the age of seventeen can legally purchase and video game rated M for Mature. It is very easy to get parental consent when the parents are not aware of what they are buying, to them a game is just a toy to keep their child occupied when they get bored. This should not happen. Parents need to be made aware of what is in video games so that they can make educated decisions on whether or not it is appropriate for their little munchkins to play or not.
