Canceling Class on Friday: The Logical and Safer Choice

Class on the Friday before Fall Break would be a wasted effort on behalf of everyone involved.  As Fall Break fast approaches, student’s one-track mind and safer conditions are two great reasons to cancel class on Friday.  The one-track mind could prove the class to be a waste of time on Friday, and the safety is just a matter of being able to leave at a time that other students are not leave, thus creating a lack of traffic when leaving campus and heading on home.
Many of us have plans to go home and see missed family and friends and as Fall Break has been approaching, we all have been looking more and more forward to reuniting with these people once again.  If we were to have class on Friday, neither the students, nor you would be able to accomplish anything productive.  Students typically have a one-track mind, and once we are told we can go do something we have been looking forward to, that thing consumes our every thought.  In class on Friday, whatever lesson is given will ultimately need to be given again because thoughts of plans for the weekend will not allow any room for learning.  Our focus will be on anything but being in the classroom.  Thus making you just have to repeat yourself again once the “sour patch kids” have to keep asking you questions that should not have to be asked because you already will have taught the material on Friday.
Another great reason to have class canceled is because of safety hazards.  Having class on Friday would cause the greater majority of the class to leave later in the afternoon, when most of campus is deciding to leave.  This will cause severe traffic problems and with all the anxious homesick students, there is a higher possibility that people will not be paying attention while they are driving and possibly get into some kind of car accident.
Having class canceled is better for everyone involved.  The students’ grades will ultimately be better due to the fact that having the lesson on a day where we are not thinking about break constantly, will allow for more learning.  Also, your time could be spent doing something for yourself instead of wasting an hour teaching students who are not paying attention.  It would also benefit the students in the ability to add some safety by allowing them to leave at a different time than the mass crowd of students.  And as a personal side note, it would also be great to be able to start break off a day earlier since Friday is my nineteenth birthday and being able to leave early means that I could spend my actual birthday with my family.
