Hi Class,
For your first blog assignment you will need to do the following:
View this TedTalk: http://www.ted.com/talks/aaron_koblin.html
After you have seen the video, write a 300-400 word post exploring these types of questions: How do these technological experiments/art forms create glimpses and signs of our humanity? What does that humanity look like in a digital age? What do these visuals say about our culture? Why do these types of experiments exist?
Also, Think about the following statement: "An interface can be a powerful narrative device. And as we collect more and more personally and socially relevant data, we have an opportunity, and maybe even an obligation, to maintain [our] humanity and tell some amazing stories"
Don't be limited by the questions above. Pose your own questions and answer them to the best of your ability. I'm not looking for a certain kind of answer, but make sure you incorporate some type of interpretation regarding the rhetoric of these visuals.

ReplyDeleteAaron Koblin reinforced what many of us already know in the fact that humanity is becoming more advanced and adept at using technology than ever before. The way we can use technology to do things these days is incredible. There is never anything that can’t be done or found by using technology. In a digital age it appears as if humanity has just become a bunch of robots. All of the art forms and experiments he showed us were down by plugging in data and letting the computer process them. A computer does all the majority of the transformations. I feel like the message he was trying to announce is to not be alarmed when technology starts to completely engulf our society because it is something that is inevitable. These experiments exist in order to challenege our bodies and minds. Without them it would be hard to advance humanity as fast as it is going now.
ReplyDeleteWord of mouth has become a thing of the past, the newest way to share things is always the fastest and that has become through the interface. Everything can be stored indefinitely with little frustration or stress that is why the interface has become the main choice. Writing postcards or sharing home movies have almost become non-existent because that postcard can be written in an email or text that will be received in an instant. The movies are easily taken and uploaded to the internet as well for the whole family to see. These ways also allow us to keep information easily accessible for years to come without worrying about them being lost or damaged.
It has become logical to see technology as the new day an age of society. Just like over the course of history there is always a faster and more efficient way to accomplish a task. Now that we have the interface it only makes sense that we use it to make our lives that much more advanced.
