Analysis of Visual Media
As Portrayed by Aaron Koblin
Aaron Koblin acts as a means to bring out our inner personalities and utterly describe our humanity. He displays the broad spectrum of different transference of data with visual representations that utilize simple, yet elegant ideas that pose serious and in many cases insightful information. Aaron begins the talk by explaining the progression of social media throughout the past two centuries; elevating from books to complex interfacing through technology. This major changes marks the current changing of societal affairs and shows how easily data can be accessed from all across the globe. Koblin then displays, using LED lighting, the flight patterns of airplanes as they cross the US mainland, Atlantic, and Pacific Ocean, ferrying not only people, but also information to different regions of the continent. Koblin shows how airports have changed in the past years to accommodate more and bigger airplanes. This change also directly mimics modern times and how data transference is changing to accommodate the new-age technology. Koblin then tells the audience of his "survey" for people to draw sheep facing to the left. When over ten thousand "sheep" were posted, Koblin was able to analyze the creativity, motivation, and methodical process that is the human psyche; therefor he is able to visualize the humanity at its finest, to, without basis, create something without (mostly) a questions as to why. Even in a later project hosted by Koblin, the subjects were willing to complete a visual representation of an object. When people failed or succeeded in doing so, Koblin was able to reconstruct the one-hunded dollar bill that he destroy using the miscellaneous artwork from the subjects. This showed him the diligence and the creativity of the human psyche. Also when Koblin made the mash of human voices to the robot voice, it shows him, with much detail, the human psyche and how art helps to bring out the humanity in people. Finally when people are asked to draw something specific enough to give them an idea but vague enough to allow for much "breathing room", Koblin is astounded by the creativity of people. The test was to recreate a video of Johny Cash using thousands of photos taken from peoples' artwork. With the death of Johny cash, many people were inspired to participate in the test and succeeded in doing so by being apart of the video Koblin made. Through all of these test that Koblin hosted and all the subjects he used, he was able to ascertain the human psyche in such a way that would astound the audience. Koblin finally was able to give a visual representation of what is our "humanity" by giving into creativity and ambiguity to let the individual shine through.
