In
this Ted talk humanity is displayed through digital images that were
connected by interfaces. The first display is the image of the United States
and all of the flights that traveled over an elapsed time. This displays how
human, not only from the U.S. but from the entire world travel in, out, and
around the country. The flight interface eventually displays where the major
and minor airports of the U.S. are. It collectively shows how the air travel
peaks at certain times in certain locations showing the travel patterns of
humans. Next the sheep experiment was introduced and people were asked to
simply draw a sheep. This experiment overall shows the diversity in the people
that participated and also the dedication that they put into it. Some people
simply sketched a quick image in under a minute while some used up an entire
forty-six minute period. This shows how in all a sheep was usually designed, with
some exceptions, and no matter what the time or effort put in still could be
identified as a sheep. Through these experiments along with the Johnny Cash and
music video ones they all display humanity digitally. Therefor humanity can be
displayed digitally through all of those ways. The music video displays
different backgrounds from which people came from. The interface actually takes
images from Google Earth and constructs them into a music video designed
especially for the user. These experiments say a lot about humanity and our
culture today. Notice all of these experiments are done digitally and with the use
of a computer. Computers have a lot to do with society today and this entire
TedTalk was based on digital aspects of this. If someone did not have access to
a computer then they would not be able to participate in these experiments. The
images that were drawn during the Johnny Cash experiment can show a lot about
our culture. It shows the perception of Johnny Cash and how so many similar
pictures were drawn yet still having their own differences. Changes within
humanity and society differ along with time and as they progress more data is
collected through experiments like these in order for our culture and humanity
in today’s world to be displayed digitally and be easier to comprehend. This
experiments exist not only to display humanity but also challenge how we view
it today.
