Ad Astra per Aspera

        At first look, the tattoo is foreign in language but the symbol can be interpreted by people all over the globe. The picture is of a fourteenth century depiction of the world that uses precise measurements to calculate distances to certain places. This picture represents not only geologist or mapmakers, but people from all corners of the scientific and philosophical field by combining the Latin language with the picture of the Globe. The idea of Studying the Earth and other planetary bodies greatly contributed to the development of mankind by questioning the beliefs of the religious systems and allowing people to think freely. As people began to think for themselves, the Renaissance came about, which allowed for great works of art and advancements in the scientific fields. The words "Ad Astra per Aspera" literally means "To stars through work" which is translated to "A rough road leads to the stars". This symbolic meaning shows that through determination and hard work, one will eventually meet success and reach the stars.
       Armed with the definition and the significance of both of these symbols, one can now figure out the meaning of the tattoo. The bearer of the tattoo communicates through his tattoo that he is a hard worker and is expecting to be met with success at the end of his road. The tattoo shows that he is a strong willed and determined individual that will strive for success, no matter the hardships that he is met with. Also, the globe depicts an individual that is either highly philosophical, scientific, or both. The combination of both reveals that the individual has had many hardships in the past but has successful endured do to his logical thinking and determination. The person not only believes in change, but welcomes it and continues to strive and adapt.
