Texting and Driving

The video that I watched was about texting and driving and the effects of what could happen. The authors first started off the video by displaying facts that brought the reality of texting and driving to your attention. The facts were numbers of death tolls as well as percentages of incidents. The music also playing along with the opening title set a dreary and ominous feeling. It made you feel sad, which also creates you to realize the severity of texting in driving. By using emotion to effect the viewer it reaches out to them and causes them to focus more on the idea that is trying to be put across. The authors of the video did try to make the video humorous, which for entertaining your class mates works well, but not for focusing on your idea. The video communicated the point across quite effectively by making the viewer realize what could actually happen if you text and drive. Another resource of the movie was personal interviews with many people asking if they ever texted while driving, many of their answers were yes. Surprisingly, a statistic that was produced said that 70% of Clemson students admitted to texting and driving. That is a large percentage to have at risk of an incident because of a simple text message. The authors were clearly trying to focus the video on college students/high school students. The reasoning for this is because of the way that they decided to approach the video. Overall they did somewhat of an effective job by bringing the facts of texting and driving to reality.
